COLINSRI
Whats the general opinion on the gamo?
roblade
with the gamo it all depends on how much its for sale for and what does it come with. nothing wrong with them, but if its the same price as a bsa then i would go for the bsa, if its cheaper than a bsa it would be a tough choice. ROB The gammo is the same price as a second hand BSA. About £120, apparently full power (well 11.2lb anyway). What now?
SNAKEBITE
Nothing wrong with an "el Gamo" but go for a BSA. Wheres your National pride man?!
COLINSRI
Nothing wrong with an "el Gamo" but go for a BSA. Wheres your National pride man?! But Gammo is owned by BSA? The purchase will go towards BSA profits . Is the gammo good enough for field work and vermin? Is the quality good? Is it really 11.2lb as they say? COLINSRI
Did you know that Gamo is spanish for 'Stag'? Not just a pretty face am I?
SNAKEBITE
But Gammo is owned by BSA? The purchase will go towards BSA profits . But BSA is a British name with British heritage. Help preserve the name. Ask yourself this........................... Why is a second hand gun (BSA) the same price as a new Gamo? Is it ............ A) The BSA is better The work of the faeiries (no not a typo but the old style spelling ) You asked my opinion and now you have it, do what you wish with this information. I hope I have not come across as shirty but you did ask
roblade
snake bite just which part of a bsa other than the barrel is british? as for the gamo, they are not a bad rifle, i have tried the gamo quickshot s and was getting very good groupings with it at 35 yards, but the oly down side is the power, guy at the club has one and after 6 months of limited use its only putting out 7f.lbs rifles to watch out for (in a good way) any air arms rifles any HW rifles (except the HW57 good, but not as good as the others) bas rifles webley rifles border line rifles gamo cometa in my opinion anything other than the above should only be considered if the price is very good. one thing about shooting a spring prowered air rifle, is that they need a lot of practise to be able to shoot them accuratly, if you had problems with the Co2 rifle you may have really bad problems with a spring rifle. how you getting on findign a club? that really is the best way to see what rifles are out there and how you get on with them. all the best ROB

A) The BSA is better The work of the faeiries (no not a typo but the old style spelling ) You asked my opinion and now you have it, do what you wish with this information. I hope I have not come across as shirty but you did ask becuase the BSA's are horribly overpriced One of my friends has a Gamo CFX and although the trigger leaves a little to be desired, the rest of the gun is very nicely made, it uses plastic in the right places and the quality of the gun as a whole is very high. This same friend also had the loan of a BSA meteor a few weeks prior to purchasing this gun, all i can say is he deffinatly made the correct decision in buying the Gamo. The BSA's trigger was equally useless to the gamo's but slightly heavier, but the finish on the whole gun was awful. Not to mention the BSA was the same price and is a break barrel, where as the gamo is an underlever with a clever if not slightly fiddley openable breach. The gamo is a good gun, shame about the trigger. If you up for spending an extra £100, buy a HW underlever of some sort. It will help you build some good muscles carrying it around but you wont find a better built or more accurate underlever air rifle.
roblade
Nick, i think its a little unfair to compare the CFX to a meteor, the meteor has been out an absolute age and can normaly pick up a second hand meteor for under£50 Now if it were being compared against the Lightening XL then i wonder which he would feel were the better rifle then, I know which one i would consider first. dunganick
my reason for comparing the meteor is that it falls into the same price range as the CFX, which is why i think the CFX is a good gun for the money. The build is good, its as accurate as you like for such a cheap gun, the trigger is rough. Where as the BSA is very overpriced considering what you can get in the CFX. dont get me wrong though, there are better guns than the gamo, but for the money it represents good value. dunganick
yes i have heard about the springs dieing quickly, easily sorted with a replacement of higher quality. I have to say my mates gun certainly seems to be maintaining the 12ftlb level.
COLINSRI
Would you rather have this BSA: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...topic=17113&hl= or a new gamo ?

SNAKEBITE
snake bite just which part of a bsa other than the barrel is british? The name, as stated in my post If buying new then ofcourse you do get the warranty etc but you will get more "bang for bucks" with the BSA. Not to mention resale value. There is nothing wrong with the Gamo but for me the choice would be the BSA.
