webber
Apple Cider Vinegar, ACV, must be non pasturised, 5ml. / Litre. The best price that I've found recently is on Ellisons Poultry Supplies. There are several benefits from dosing the drinking water with ACV. http://www.ellisonpoultry.co.uk/feed-supplements-1/cider/apple-cider-vinegar-5-litres.html Its cheaper if you buy 5 litres, thats enough for 1000 Litres of water. To stop algae growing in the water you could / should also consider painting the tank or cover with black polythene, old carpet etc. If day light can't get in, the algae can't grow. Also avoid at all costs drawing water from streams and rivers for drinking water for poults. webber Edited August 1, 2011 by webber
CharlieT
As webber says, cover with black plastic. I use black silage sheet to good effect.

AmateX
As said paint the outside with black paint, you could also add a bit of vircon S in to the water.
scolopax
thanks for all the quality advice lads I went down to the farm to clean out the recently arrived cube to find it was absolutely minging inside . An hour with the high pressure washer in the yard removed the worst of the dirt but there was still a greasy residue adhereing to the inside which was refusing to shift. Put 200 litres of water inside with some degreaser to then see that the tap leaked and could not be sealed 100 % !! Luckily my brother has now found somewhere with a couple of black IBC's, we just now need to negotiate a price.
