30-6
What's is the general feeling about the sun's position ? Obviously it's better for the shooter to have the sun behind, but in this scenario does it influence the sight picture the birds see of the pattern ? proTOM1
Its best for the shooter but also helps with glare and so on from the shooter in the hide. Edited August 9, 2011 by proTOM1

motty
I agree with Tom and Fenboy. I don't let the sun's position have any bearing on where i set up, though. I will make sure i've considered where the birds want to be, possible direction of fire and wind direction first. If i have to face into the sun to set up in the right place, then so be it. Colc08
I was once shooting over rape and the pigeons were only dropping right in thr middle of the field. My only option was to set up my hide at the base of a single oak tree that stood in the middle of the field. For the first couple of hours the birds were spooking off as my hide was too obvious to them no matter how small and concealed i tried to make it. It was a clear winters day and the sun was low in front of me so even if the birds had been coming in shooting them would have been tricky. I had nothing better to do so I thought I'd stick it out but decided that if I did get the chance of a few shots I didn't want the sun glaring in my eyes, so I spun my hide round to the other side of the tree Now the sun was behind me and WOW what a difference! Now the sun was working to my advantage and as the pigeon aproached my pattern the sun wa in THIER eyes and soon became clear to me that it was blinding them from seeing my hide. After that I had a great afternoon. Nothing to write home about but I managed to shoot about 15 and was a much more enjioyable afternoon than it was morining. So my advice would be that in the right situation you should look to see if you can use the suns position to your advantage.
