simply at that age rangers will be cheapest but economy is the worst of the lot and are pretty agricultural. L200's will be next the old shape up to 06 are bargains now with plenty of decent un abused ones about 30mpg or there abouts the new shape the price does jump fairly sharply but they are better on fuel and better on road as they seem geared a fair bit higher. navaras have the same thing with a change going on arround those years, the old shape are cheap because of the engine issues they were plagued with but most failed so are on updated engines. The new shapes are a reasonably decent motor but do have a few issues my brothers company who have 5 will be getting rid of them all before the warranty is up as they have had a lot of problems but they do tow heavy cattle crushes most of the time so they do have a hard life. hilux's well have a look at the rest then see what you get for your money it will be 5 years older and twice the mileage they trade very much on reputation and hold their value a little too well.

I use a Ranger...trouble free motoring , even the garage said they hardly ever break..nice ride on the motorway, but I like a van like drive anyway. Fuel around 25 to 28 mpg , and pretty good off road if that matters . Liked the Rodeo as an option . Everyone I have known with a L200 seems to have had some bother but suppose there are more about so reports will be more prolific ,and nobody says much if nowt goes wrong. Nicest looking truck out the lot though ,but Ranger had a longer bed but may be the ugliest..which adds to the character

I cant comment on the other choices but my new shape (07) L200 has been faultless over the last year of ownership. Ride is car-like but you can tell that its a truck over bumpy stuff. The wheel base is long and you notice this initially around tight corners but soon get used to the length of the thing. Economy is good (for a big lump of iron work) at 28 - 30mpg around town and low 30's on the motorway. It will cruise at 85 all day.

Turning circle is much improved from the 'classic' L200 and the new truck feels a lot more refined although many prefer the looks of the classic L200. Having driven both, I'd go for the new shape every time

NAVARA IS THE BEST ALL ROUND!!!! seriously used a toyota, ranger and mitsi none of them can touch a navara for ride reliability its not the best on economy but its not the worst by any stretch of the imagination they are fantastic trucks just check out the reviews

blimey is it one of the old ones that throws rods through blocks or the new ones that are thirsty and seem to eat clutches and gearboxes?

well you must be one of the more unlucky ones my mates never ate a clutch or pushed a rod it was bullet proof and as for fuel consuption it really wasn't bad at all he now has a toyota hilux which he bought brand new and i can tell you its a piles of **** even though the engine is half a litre larger it has no power the clutch is allready on the way out and with only five gears the drive is terrible it wallows and not nice at all his old 2006 navara was heads and shoulders abover the toyota

i think you can google any make or model with the term "nackered" in front of it and you'll get all the bad things lol! I am just giving you my opinion I used to be a car salesman and no not for nissan lol, but the nivara was allways a great seller in fact when my mate tried to buy a new one there was a long waiting list the Toyota was delivered straight away and I can see why everyone has had good and bad experiences with every make and model.

there are indeed good and bad of most makes and models, the D22 made it onto watchdog with engine failures the later one well read the reviews and count up the clutch failures. I liked driving the ones I've driven but these show its not just doing towing that causes expensive issues

I have just changed from an old series three landrover that was beyond economic repair to a Ford Ranger which is pretty good off road has high and low range would be even better with more aggressive mud tyres, ground clearence is good as well it is not one of the blinged up ones so was good value too

Dont waste your money on a navara unless you ve got a ball of money when the engine blows a con rod d40 is better but still have problems have a look on google i think the best two are the rodeo well built good on fuel 30 32 round town 35 37 on a run and will pull 3.5 tonne which no other truck will and also the hilux well made but parts can be a bit steep compared to the ranger. had a old shape L200 always something wrong with it and only getting 24 to the gallon round town had the rodeo after that and theres no comparisson miles better truck all round a good mate of mine on our shoot had a d40 adventurer on lease and has now got rid of it a brought a honda crv because it drank diesel. Good luck anyway all the best
