keith payne
hi there i am trying to find land to practice clays over, my 21 year old son has really taken to clay shooting and has won a few club shoots already and has only been shooting since feb this year, what would be ideal is to find somewhere local to us in esher surrey where we could buy our own trap and clays and he could improve cos he has been told by many he has got it!!!any help or advise would be great thanks
HDAV
Why when you live 30 minutes from Bisley would you faff about with trap in a field ( in one of the most expensive parts of the country! ) If your serious about helping your son get him some proper lessons with a top coach! Diceman
To be honest I don't think one trap and a bit of land would help much. Assuming he is shooting ESP what you need is as much practice over as many different presentations as possible, and even if you found an interesting enough bit of land (trees / valleys / hills etc) you would spend an hour dragging the trap around for every 10 minutes shooting and still not get the midis, chondelles, rabbits etc. Better to spend time at all the grounds you can find, even the strawbalers, pitting himself against as many course designers as he can. Try some skeet, DTl, Compak too, all helps with ESP practice. Don't get me wrong, I have a trap and a bit of land and it is nice to be able to smoke a few on a summers evening on a moments notice, but it isn't 'real' practice if you are serious about getting ahead. keith payne
excellent thanks he is under a coach, what i would like to do is have him practice at every oppertunity hence the idea of buying our own own traps and clays cheaper in the long run etc

HDAV
There is good and bad practice DTL/ABT and skeet are great for training at Bisely you have Olympic Trap and other disciplines you dont get everywhere. It is also open pretty reasonable opening times. a decent trap will cost a few £k then there is the costs of clays, batteries, etc DTL is the simplest to set up one trap ground mounted. For sporting there are plenty of shoots nearby and if your keen with a bit of luck you can get 4/5 shoots a weekend! I do know some the top shots have fully set ups in their garden etc
