Are you talking about a Disco 4 or Turbos ?. Turbo failure is normally seen as major clouds of blue smoke from the exhaust and no power. I have done well in excess of 500,000 miles in Discoveries and never needed a turbo yet. Use synthetic and semi synthetic oils.

I was thinking of buying a 50,000 mile Disco 4 maybe next year so I would be interested in any probs with them. Mate of mine has a 60 plate Defender on what he calls shared ownership, he bought it buti spends over half its time with the dealer being repaired.

I am talking about one of the turbo's on my disco 4, at 8000 miles it started sending out gray smoke when the engine was asked to work over 2000rpm, hope this helps.

I do sometimes go onto LR Owner but only when I have problems I cannot easily resolve. The above symptoms are typical of turbo failure or overfilling with oil. Getting a failure so soon is odd, has the turbo been removed during its 6000 inspection/service?, if so then most need filling with oil to lube the main bearing, dont do that and it runs dry and hot, bearing fail in no time, usually in only a few miles.

I've got a 10 Plate Disco 4 that has done 26K miles in just over a year. Touch wood I have not had a single fault with it so far, not even a new bulb required. Impressed with it on the whole (not so the running costs and comedy full consumption, I am finding it much worse on mpg compared to the Disco 3 I had before).

I'm sure I'm just tempting fate now though....
