Recommend me a dog training book

Interested in learning the theory behind dog training & dog psychology. Can anyone recommend a decent book that's pitched at the relative beginner to dog training - our current dog isn't a gundog breed but we've have had labs & retrievers in the family for many years previously so I'm familiar with the very basics but have never done any focussed training for shooting over or flushing/retrieving in the field.

I'm not looking to train our current dog (she's beyond training  ) - this is simply for interest just now. In the next 12-24 months we may get a cocker pup that I'd like to train, but that's a medium-long term plan.

Spaniel - Training Spaniels by Joe Irving.

Get some DVDs (Hawcroft, David Lissett, Ed Martin) too, much more helpful than trying to visualise training scenarios when reading from a book. Google Paul French Video - there is a good range on the website.

Lots out there.. Some are better suited to Labs, some Spaniels! It will depend on what dog you end up buying.

I like the training spaniels one as mentioned above, or Paul Rawlings Training gundogs for field and home.

The new Howard kirby DVD's look good, one thing is certain he will have you entertained! you can see a lot of his work online here http://www.horseandcountry.tv/celebrity/howard-kirby

And buy his DVDs from http://www.mullenscote.co.uk/

I have a big library and many books but one is a must. Gundogs trianing and field trials by PRA Moxon the one i am currently reading is somewhat different in it covers all the breed types and all the uses EXEPT trials The specialist gundog by Guy Wallace. Many times someone posts on here "which dog shall i get?" this is the book for them no question
