mad1
evening all after much badgering from my 8 year old son he wants to start on the clays. He is pretty good he has tried it at the local game fairs 8 out of 10 then 9 out of 12 :o he used there o/u.the problem is I only have a single shot 410 I would prefer to get him a o/u when finances change .also how would it work going to my local clay ground in spennymoor would he have to use a separate trap or would he be able to do a round as I was not sure of the kill zone compared to a 12g . so if any one wants to help get a young gun started ie a decent cheapish gun or equipment please let me know. Could I get a hand launcher and keep the single any ideas. Many thanks. M1
TJ91
hand launcher with single barrel would do the job to get him out there depedning on size and strentgh it might be worth considering a bigger bore we started a mates son off with a small 20 bore semi, very little recoil with the light load carts, better pattern and range
paulos
If he is only 8 years old I would be cautious about a hand launcher - you don't want him swinging the gun too far back towards you while you're concentrating on throwing it - you want to be watching him like a hawk! I'd take him to Spennymoor with the 410 - they usually have a 'have a go' stand available with something fairly straightforward on it. If not, just find a stand with something steady and hittable and have a blat at that.
mad1
He used my single 20 but it was a bit too much.
Beretta28g
28 bore is better than a .410 as its not much bigger in size but throws more lead out there.
clay shooter123
Don't rush anything, just a few shots now and again so he can get used to it, wouldn't want him being put off either by missing (as a 410 is hard enough for the best of shots) or due to recoil due to his age. apache
It's so difficult as there's so little lead there that it makes it harder and can put them off missing a lot. 28G might be your compromise?
mad1
Like I said he is a decent shot with the 410 so hopefully will be better with a 28. How much am I looking at for a 28 g .... Any one want to sell one

ESPClays
How much are you looking to spend? 28 bore would be ideal, my dad has an O/U MK, it is fantastic. here's a few more - []=Shotgun&Filter[NewMechanism][]=Over%20and%20Under&Filter[Calibre][]=28%20gauge&sortField=Price&sortOrder=asc&perPage=118"]guns
tizzi
hi the turkish 410s are very good, my sons had a khan 410 for 18 months and its billiant, it even has multi chokes and only cost £475 new with a 3 year warranty
