Also are there are airlines which won't carry guns that you know :P???

'Airline approved' is about as meaningless as 'Police approved' for shotgun cabinets - there is no such thing.

My case has 3 holes through the top and bottom, one by the handle and then 2 more at each end, so I will by 3 small locks nearer the time.

We are going to Croatia, I don't know who the airline is I am afraid.

If you have a look on the BA's website as an example, under transporting sporting rifles and it says nothing about aluminium flight cases.

" Passengers wishing to take a sporting gun on British Airways mainline flights are able to do so.

The gun must be unloaded, dismantled and packed securely in a storage case to go in the aircraft hold (any locks should be fastened, however please ensure that you have the keys with you for any security inspections).

Passengers must carry any shotgun/firearm certificates that they have.

Sporting guns are defined as such guns as air rifles, safari rifles, hunting rifles, etc.

Please note that BA Connect do not permit sporting guns on their DH8 aircraft. To find out the type of aircraft being used for your journey, you can access our online timetable if you click here. Please enter the route and date that you are travelling on and take note of the aircraft type given in the 'type' column. Then click on 'aircraft type' within the info page at the bottom of the screen.

If you wish to take a sporting gun on your journey with you, you will need to inform your local British Airways office before travel.

Please note: There are certain destinations and transit cities that do not permit the carriage of firearms. Your local British Airways office can advise you whether firearms can be carried to your chosen destination.

Your local British Airways office telephone numbers can be found if you click here.

Any ammunition to be carried must be for sporting purposes only, and the maximum gross weight must not exceed 5kgs per passenger.

All ammunition must be securely boxed and preferably stored inside a suitcase.

Any suitcases/carry cases/boxes containing ammunition must not bear an 'explosives' label.

Currently, there is no bonded baggage service between London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports. All firearms that need to travel between these two airport must be transported by a licensed dealer. Passengers must make arrangements prior to travel with the dealer. This applies to passengers who do not hold a valid UK Firearms Certificate "

I can read the make of my case when I get home if you want me to?

I use a massively over-engineered aluminium double shotgun case when travelling. I compared it with a Napier case when buying, and the Napier, whilst tough, is not going to stand up to some of the horrors inflicted by the airlines. The Napier case is alu-framed, with plastic pannelling.

A proper aluminium case, like a Cabelas one from the USA, is worth its weight if you are travelling a lot and very over-protective of your kit. A pal of mine used an ABS case on a flight, and found that the case, and its beloved double-barrelled contents had been completely mashed.

Not sure whether I will get my wrists slapped for putting this link on here, but this is worth a look bearing in mind the dollar-sterling exchange rate: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...0772&id=0026824
