MM
Does anyone have a petrol strimmer i can borrow for an afternoon? OR If u come and strim it for me, then a nights lamping or a day with the ferrets is yours. Its a bank of brambles and ferns. about 100 yards long. Its in clumps, so not the whole thing. Ive to ferret the lot, and dont want to spend a week chopping away, when it could be done in a few hours. WIRRAL!!
Beardo
you'll want a brushcutter not a strimmer for brambles. ( bit of a drive for me though )

Beardo
it's like a strimmer but with a solid disc blade instead of nylon line

ziplex
Using a brush cutting blade will cut them at the base no problem but you'll still have to drag them about afterwards.....if you use a heavy duty strimmer and start at the top and work down the resulting pile of 'thorns' is more manageable No problem if it's a small bush but better this way if there's loads of it........damn stuff it is. I cut a huge ammount down at my mothers recently and after i'd zapped it with the blade it was still in the same place....just unatatched Edited September 8, 2011 by ziplex
Sm0kah
If not you maybe be able to hire one fairly cheep I'm a landscaper I would just swipe from the bottom and pull the mound out of the way with a big rake

I had to bag it all up so smashing it to bits helped....nighmare
garygreengrass
I use a long handled hedge trimmer, the type that looks like a strimmer with a hedge trimmer head on it as you can chop them up small and leave them there.
Sm0kah
Not worth the hassle doing it that way could snap a few teeth off the hedge cutter blade, stones, wire, litter. And tends to get stuck on thicker stems
MM
it really needs something heavy duty. If i can get a few helping hands, i dont mind offering some shooting in return.
