Merlin64
Went up to some fields I have been shooting since Feb. near Selby. One had 50-100 pigeons on . Got set up with new rotary and after 1 hour not a thing . Took the rotary down and put a electric flapper out . Wow ! Straight away 5 in half hour and missed 6 .Steady few for another hour then I left . Was very windy and pigeons just came in straight and confidently, text book style to my pattern of 10 FUDS. A peregrine circled over the flapper and I think that had moved the birds off somewhere else for the afternoon . Rotary definitely not worked for me that day . Am a bit sceptical about them , I find just deeks and the flapper work a treat .

caeser
Its the old saying, different days different ways. Next time they may love the rotary. So don't lose faith in it.

Thanks . I was using 2 artificials on the rotary , with the foam wings . They looked good but not good enough obviously . Do you think real birds would have made a difference?Cheers

Martin g
I always use dead birds on my rotary, and replace my plastic decoys with shot birds.. When I was out this week I set up 2 patterns. ( thought I'd have a bit of a play) The one straight in front of my hide was a big U shape made up of shell decoys with the rotary at the front of this and to the left slightly, and then I joined 6 birds that I had frozen from a previous session. The pattern then looked like W. The birds preferd to come into the side of the pattern with the birds that had been frozen. This meant I was shooting more to my right, and I found this awkward because of my hide pole been in the way.so I replaced the shells with fresh shot birds and just had the traditional U shape straight in front of me with the rotary. Birds came straight into the kill zone in front. Just goes to show that when out decoying that there are times when its good to play about with your pattern and take satisfaction that you have managed to get them to come in where you want them.. All I need to do now is try and hit more..

caeser
60 miles may seem a long way to you. I've been driving 90 miles each way for the last 12 years ,to the land that I shoot on. Well worth it though. Its the diesel cost now that is the biggest pain, not the driving time.
