The GWP x Lab interests me, i believe there is a fair demand in parts for them. On the face of it if you got the fire and stamina of the GWP yet some of the labs patience and amenability it sounds like a good idea. Might make the best "all work" dog with some health benefits?

Theres an article on various crosses in this months field and a great looking picure of a well constructed example. Any one any experiances?

Realy do think we could do with a new type of dog on the scene personally

Just another mongrel...............Some will be good, some will be awful - they won't be as good as a Lab at retrieving nor as a GWP at hunting.

Agreed just another cross breed people think they can make money out of sprigador, sprocker, etc seen them all and none have been better than the breed they have been crossed with on either side :no:

It sounds like a good idea on the face of it but they will just be as mentioned a mongrel just because they call it a nice name does not mean anything. You could get the bad bits of both parent dogs and none of the good bits so would end up with something worse than useless and you wont be able to tell until you start trainig, by then they are the family pet and you are stuck with it.

Used to do a lot of beating (grouse & pheasants mainly) when I was at school and uni. The head keeper on one of the hill estates had a GWP / lab cross which was a fantastic worker. It used to hunt the hills all day during the drives, then pick up at the end. It didn't point. It looked a bit scruffy but had real character and was a bit of a softy really. I once watched it chase a fox for about three-quarters of a mile. The fox had had enough running so turned to square up to the mutt. There was a 30 second stand-off, then the mutt bottled it and rejoined the grouse drive.

The keeper says it was the best dog he has ever had for the shooting days.
