AndyElectro
Hi fellas, The AGS Elite Tactical that came with my S400 (second hand off here) went under yesterday . No matter how many times I tried to zero left the shots went consistently wide right. Had the rifle looked at and confirmed the scope to blame so I'm in the market for a new one with a max budget of £55, I've found 2 potential candidates but I am struggling to decide which one to get (or other suggestions welcome! ) Any advice guys? Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 4-12x50 AO Rifle Scope - £50 Nikko Sterling Mountmaster or AGS Cobalt 3-9 x 50 IR - £44 AGS CObalt Both have things going for them with the AGS having the IR and the Nikko being a 4-12 Thanks Edited September 19, 2011 by AndyElectro
TaxiDriver
Practically speaking, How many times is an IR really nescessary ? Whereas, that little bit extra magnification can sometimes be handy ?

Whereas, that little bit extra magnification can sometimes be handy ? That's exactly what I was thinking to be honest, my mates got a Hawke with IR and he raves about it but I rarely go out when the light is that bad. Just that also I've never had a Nikko scope before so not sure on the optic quality
TaxiDriver
Myself personally, I don't know that an IR particularly helps with shooting in poor light as such, however the illuminated reticule can help you to see the reticule against the background in certain (lower?) light situations. AndyElectro
Well I took the plunge and went for the Nikko Stirling from Uttings. I figured I'd rarely need an IR and also the extra magnification would be worth it. Got myself some RWS superdomes too as my last tin of AA Fields were a right mess only 1 in 2 were useable Should be here tomorrow

Sha Bu Le
Hi Andy Got a Nikko Mountmaster on my Lghtning XL been on for about a year and I can't fault it having had a good experience with that I got another one for my HW90K. Had to send it back and get a replacement, would not hold zero for more than 3-4 pellets. Uttings were magic no probs getting it changed. So I think with lower priced scopes, which is where most of are at, you pays yer money and takes yer chances. ATB Bri

AndyElectro
Well an update - I used the scope for the first time this weekend and I am very impressed it feels very well built and I mounted and zeroed in easily. The optics are lovely and clear, much better than my old AGS and the reticle is brilliant. The adjustable distance optics are great too. I took a maggie down at 40 yards with a clean head shot using RWS superdomes. Then I shot acorns clean off an oak tree at 35 yards. I never knew I could be so accurate! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new scope under £
