After carfull consideration I'm taking my little lad out decoying with me today I can't wait it's his first time and I'm sure he's going to love it I'll keep you posted how we get on !!

How old is he?

I took my Grandson out at 8 years old and he loved it, 6 months later he had his first pigeons down with my old .410, 4 on the first attempt.

Remember Saftey first :good: , and then everything else will be a bonus :lol::yes::lol: .

Let us know how you and your son get on.

Hope he enjoys it, take it slowly. With mine, also 8, I found a trip every few weeks works well so he doesn't get bored. And I also let him steer the Landy around the fields which helps! BTW, mine did a BASC young shots day yesterday, really enjoyed it but surprisingly said he wanted an air rifle before a shotgun (I thought he would be desparate for a shotgun after a few clays). On the subject of licences, I spoke to the Police licening officer who was there and she was very encouraging, saying it was good to get them involved young as they learnt to respect firearms. She added that to shoot a shotgun on someone else's land he would need his own licence - something I wasn't aware of as I thought being under supervision counted on your own land or elsewhere.

Well we got the fields bout 2 and shot till half five thirteen birds later my little man was loving it I can't even express how proud I was watching him go pick up his the first pigeon he just picked it up and ran back to he hide with the biggest smile on his face it was magic he picked up every bird after that 6 in all lost 7 behind us in a deep pit so there fox food :( :( ...

Advice does seem a bit varied but I got the impression you wouldn't get prosecuted for letting him shoot on someone else's land if he didn't have a cert. Options appear to be to either have your own land/shot clays at a club/get him a licence.
