jimbo1
the cause could be something as simple as an area of river/lake bed silt being disturbed.....once it blooms it spreads like wild fire !! prymnesium (spelling ?) is what its called....and to be honest....i dont think defra....natural england....the ea or anyone else for that matter knows really much about it. lots of research gone on in texas, sweden and israel ....but thats it as far as i know...and still no real way to combat it once it takes hold. this stuff destroyed fishing on the broads twice...once in the 60`s and again...albeit a smaller outbreak..in the 80`s. both very well documented. james
labstaff
What are the signs of blue/green algae as i've never seen it in 'the flesh' as it were? Are there any links or databases which record affected areas and suspected areas in order to avoid them?
