old rooster
Matey turns up early this morning to collect a consignment for shipment and tells me a cracker about his recent experience. Has his van nicked from outside his house, inside are 3 barrels of red diesel for his canal boat along with a few other bits and bobs typical of what we leave in our motors. Police phone him a few hours later to say it's been found abandoned and ask him what was inside, he tells them about the three barrels of red diesel and they then tell him there are only 2 inside. Customs and Excise get involved and dip the tank, hey presto the thieving ***** who nicked it has put the third barrel in the tank of the van. The owner is then immediately under suispicion of having used red diesel in the van so he shows plod the documents licensing the boat and even takes them to see the actual boat !!! "You'd have believed me that the diesel was for my boat if it was all still in the barrels then ?" says matey, "Yes" says plod. It transpires that the diesel test shows the red to have been added to the original road diesel in the tank. Van gets impounded and matey gets it back after a couple of weeks along with a bill for storing it and unpaid excise duty together with a fine, total circa £750. He pays up but a couple of weeks later gets another bill from Customs and Excise for over a grand !!! This relates to the same van and has been calculated from the mileage recorded by the seller when he bought it to the mileage when recovered and assumes he's used red diesel in it all that time. Matey goes stack overflow and explains where they can shove it, once he's managed to contact the part time worker dealing with his case. The case is eventually passed to Glasgow where he continues to complain wherupon he is told that if he hears nothing else within 45 days he has nothing to pay. 48 days go by and the bailiffs turn up from SOUTHAMPTON !! to take his property. Matey by now is seriously unimpressed and tells them to return swiftly from whence they came. Shows them the letter and gets their profuse apologies for the mix up. What a ******* system innit !!! Self employed van driver doing his bit to support himself, has all the documentation to back up his claims and look at the **** he finds himself in........never did catch the ***** who nicked the van.
