vengeance111
The pin that I think the Barrel rotates on is somehow slipping out the left side on my rifle, it slips out so much its cutting into the stock, I don't know why it does this but I can't push it back by tapping it or hitting it heres a picture How can I get it back in, or will I need to go down the gunshop Edited October 23, 2011 by vengeance111
bruno22rf
Try cocking the gun first-this will remove any pressure on the pin. With the barrel at about 45 degrees and "loose" the pin should tap back into place.TAKE EXTREME CARE as the gun is cocked and could ,in theory, slam shut and remove your fingers.Difficult to tell from the piccy but there are 2 identical pins in that area-one is the barrel pivot and the other connects the cocking link to the breach-either way you should be able to check alignment from the opposite side using a torch before tapping with a copper or aluminium rod.Decent gunmakers stopped using pins like these back in the dark ages-the accuracy of the gun is heavily reliant on this area being consistent in operation and pins wearing out (often caused by a lack of/incorrect lubrication) should,by now,be a thing of the past. vengeance111
I think I'll take it to the shop then, don't really want to be tapping a loaded rifle hahah it still works, and the bolt isn't completely slipped out so alignment shouldn't be a problem
demonwolf444
happened to my bsa mercury let it come out a bit put some superlocktite stuff on it and stick it in a vice to push it slowly back into place .. solved my problem, and you cannot even tell. vengeance111
cheers for all the help, I think I'll let the shop do it though, I only just bought this rifle so it's not what I'd really expect from it :( do you reckon the shop will let me use their chronograph for free, I'm not sure if it's at the right power ? HDAV
If your taking it back to the shop you bought it from then i would expect them to fix it and chrono it for you if you ask nicely.

bruno22rf
Is the gun new?-if so demand a replacement-either the pin has been ground undersize or the breach block/breach faces have been reamed oversize.Pushing the pin back in and holding it in place with loktite or swelling the pin out with a copper hammer (the 2 cheapest fixes) is not an acceptable repair. If a new pin is fitted and the fault reoccurs reject the gun-make sure they fit a new pin by marking the existing one. I mean after all it is just one pin, and it seems to be the right size, just shaken out by the vibrations or something
bruno22rf
The pin coming out is not good news if it is the barrel pivot pin-the cocking link pin is less important. If it turns out to be the former then you need to ask why this has happened-if the pin was made/fitted correctly and lubricated occasionally then it should last the life of the gun-I fully understand the difficulty in complaining about second hand purchases but if I were in your shoes I would only accept this gun if it was fitted with a new (pivot) pin and such a repair proved 100% successful. While you are in the shop have a look at the breach of a Weirauch or any decent maker and see how the job should be done. vengeance111
Well I've already done it now, If I get any more problems with it I think I'll just swap it for another rifle tbh the bloke said he would let me do that when I bought it
