OddJob
I'm thinking about getting a 20g Webley and Scott 820 semi auto. Just wanted to know if people had used one and how they had found it. Do they cycle all cartridges as well? How about lighter loads? Any maintenance issues or things to watch out for? Thanks. Dangerous Brian
I bought an 820 for my wife to use on clays. For the money I find it a nice gun- it feels light and swings nicely. The mechanics are probably not so polished as Berettas, Brownings etc but seem to work well enough. Shell wise 28g Eley CTs go through easily. A slab of 25g Eley Grand Prix went through with no problems despite them being 67mm rather than the recommended 70mm case length (also worked well on pigeons in shot size 6). Currently running 24g CTs (70mm) which gave a couple of jams last outing. Still working out why- too light a load/ muck in the gas port/ me not assembling the valve the right way round/ still running in/ not properly lubed. If it still does it I will give W&B a call as it came with a lifetime warranty (subject to proper servicing). Probably the best way to approach an 820 is if it's second hand try before you buy adn if it's new get the warranty set up. I sent the card off for the warranty but it was returned as they have moved. Your best bet if do it online or ring them. Hope I haven't bored anyone and it is of some use (and yes I quite like the gun). ATB Brian
OddJob
Have you put any 21gram loads through it? Also, why did you go for at 20g instead of the 12g? Seeing as you are putting out the same weight of lead and the gun is the same weight. Thanks for your info, very useful. Hi Oddjod Haven't put 21g through it as I haven't found a shell with a fibre wad yet. I bought the 20 bore to keep the weight of the gun down for my Wife and the balance as far back as possible (lighter barrels). Not sure how the weight compares with the 812 but it felt light to handle in the shop. Went for a semi auto to keep the felt recoil down when using a light gun with a decent amount of lead up it. Most of what I went on was how it felt in the shop compared to other semis and O/Us in the rack and an old review in Sporting Gun.
gemini52
I had a 810 12 bore and to be fair it shot well the main concern for me with webleys is the spares back up its a joke, they have changed hands that many times you would be better bying a hatstand
