Beretta28g
If you were going to buy a new stalking rifle would you want stainless barrels? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Cheers
Vince Green
People assume its not going to go rusty so they can put it away dirty. However there are detractors who say a stainless barrel is never as accurate because it (stainless steel) has a higher coefficient of friction and damages the bullet more or fouls up quicker. Its true you never see a stainless match barrel. Really I think its personal choice.

Vince Green
amazing that as boith my custom rifle sport match stainless barrels And they are used for shooting MR? or do you just mean a heavy match type barrel. Go to Bisley during the Queens and see how many of the top flight international MR shooters have stainless barrels. The perceived wisdom is that the stainless barrels don't quite have the edge over ordinary steel. Although they last longer. I wish I could shoot well enough to know. FWIW stainless is very popular for T/R forgive me whats MR I imagine he means Match Rifle. Edited November 11, 2011 by sandy22
