ayano3
I went on Wednesday, called 2 pinks and they went over the young novice Wildfowler I take as a new member, he did so well to miss both at 30 yards. There was not a Widgeon to be either seen or heard. So all three of us went home with a clean bag.
Wildfowler12
I didn't see a single wigeon, plenty of teal about though
anser2
I usualy find shooting under the moon a waste of time. Ether the sky is too cloudy and the birds do not move, the cloud clears and you cant see them or the birds just sit it out until dawn. I have done perhaps 200 moon flights in the past 40 years and counted maybe a dozen geese and ducks in the bag. Give me a dark night and you will then know the fowl will flight at dawn or dusk rather than spend yet another freezing night on the marsh asd seeing nothing. wildfowler.250
I was told it had to be cold before the moonlight flights are worthwhile? Sounds like it would make sense as with the mild temps just now, the birds are probably eating enough during the day to keep them going until the following morning. Any opinions on the above welcome
kent
Just sat waiting on a marsh is no good, If you have say an regular evening flight then the tide is due to run later then IMO its worthwhile, but just sat waiting? not for me thanks the duck will settle down to feed someplace and have no real need to move about much. Wideon are not in real numbers anywere it seems although with weather in the teens in thier homeland a few weeks ago why should they be
ayano3
I think its better to be out there with a slight chance of a shot or two than sat with Coronation Street, Emmerdale and all the other C**P that the Mrs and Kids watch on the goggle-box. I can sit at home when I am too old and nackered to get to the marsh
