Do you need hunting licence

Ok, we have separate licences for shotguns and firearms, but not a specific hunting licence.

If you do not have a licence (as your Danish friend), you may still shoot with someone else (using their guns) provided they either own the land over which you are shooting or are a representative of the owner, who has authority to give permission to shoot on the owners behalf. So, if he is shooting with a gamekeeper over estate land he should be fine.

I suppose you kinda do in Scotland as you need a game license from the post office...

I think the OP is talking about a hunting license like they have in some parts of europe where you have to take an exam, safety test etc before you can hunt live quarry. If this is the case Blaser, then the answer is no, you don't need a license, anyone can hunt. When you say license, we think of a licence to possess a gun, either a shotgun certificate (SGC) or a firearms certificate (FAC). There are ways round holding these so guests and visitors can shoot.

I don't know if Denmark is the same as Germany, but there, excluding target shooting purposes, if you have no hunting licence then your gun licence is not valid. If it is the same, then with no hunting licence, in effect he has no gun licence either. However, as Gully and Paul have explained, if your friend were to borrow a gun then he would be in the clear while a guest. We won't go into the legality of your friend possibly bringing an unlicenced gun into the country.
