Shotgun advice / thoughts please....

I have a berretta silver pigeon 12g O/U 282 MC and teague chokes. And I dont feel the gun fits me propperly and ive never been completly happy with it. Its not the guns fault its just been the wrong purchase for me and now i need to decide what to do. And i do have to admit that although messy and cartridge fussy at times i do like the semi-auto`s, they just feel right for me when shooting them.

The last straw came on staurday when I took both my berretta and my 20g Mossburg 500 pump. My first 2 stands I shot with my berretta and only broke a single clay on each stand (12g using 28g carts), I then changed over to my mossburg and using 25g carts went on to shoot alot better also straighting one stand and more than keeping up with the 12g users.

So am confident that this was down to the ill fit for me of the berretta.

But its got me wondering, when ever I shoot with a Semi-Auto or my pump I feel i have a better "sight picture" with just the one barrel for some reason and always soot better with a semi or pump ? is the a logical reason for this or is it all in my head ?

I figure that as at most i only do 1 driven day a year and thats only on a small DIY shoot I could get away with my cheap pump for rough work and a nice semi auto for everything else and when it comes to that one day a year i can borrow one of my farthers O/U`s or SxS`s either that or fo just over £100 pick up and old AYA or simlar !

Sounds like it just doesn't fit you very well. Get down to a shop or coach and get it 'fitted' properly. Although to be honest, it sounds as though you have already made your mind up on getting a new semi.

Personally, I just bought a Fabarm XLR (in composite). Not a very well known manufacturer over here but the gun is amazing and has all the tech inside, pressure tested to 1630 bar, 3" chamber, not much recoil and nice and light. The main reason for me buying this - it just felt so 'right' for me on the mount. Obviously it will be different for everybody, but this one just fits straight out of the box. I tried SX3s, M2 etc tec.. this one just came up right each time. I used a mates to start with and on the last three stands, shot 9, 9, and a 10. Bought my own, took it out at weekend at came 2nd (by one shot) with a squad and ground i'd never shot before.

It just works so if you go looking to buy, keep a Fabarm in mind (plus I think they will soon be big over here).

I would have thought the single barrel sighting plane of the Over&Under would be similar to the semi for you, I have always found this to be so for myself. Understandable if you were looking down a side-by-side..

What is the difference in the stock measurements of the guns ? That'll give you the answer. Nigel Teague is just off J14 of the M5 if you need fitting work carried out.

I have a silver pig III beretta and urika 2 semi. Both fit me fine. I normally shoot better with the semi. I somehow have greater confidence with the semi.

Not sure why, but I would say fit is important of course, but feeling confident with the gun can give you some great results, even if it's just in your head.
