il cacciatore
As I'm applying for a FAC for a .22lr, I will need to be buying a scope for it at some point. Was wondering if a night vision scope would be a worthwhile investment? Dont quite understand what 1st generation, 2nd gen etc means. Are these affective and do they represent value for money? Wondering if anyone has used one or has one?
Axe
They are good at what they do for sure. I have been fortunate to use one of my mates on several occasions. Its first generation so offers only a low grade image but for the rimmy it works a treat. He has got an IR filter for his Deben though and this makes all the difference. The generation are basically better quality images with Gen1 at the bottom of the pile. The latest and greatest can be used during the day without harming the unit but they will hurt your bank balance. For me, well long use of the IR upsets your night vision off scope and takes a while to adjust, but if your after a cunning animal that won't go near a normal lamp, they are spot on. Will I get one, nope.

Curly87
I have only used one once and it was amazing, however i would never buy one due to the fact they cost so much a decent scope and filtered lamp works for me just aswel. and dont be tempted into buyinbg cheap russian ones i have read cases where they have leaked radiation (i think thats how they work) and can really screw up ur eyes, u end up growing at least 3 of them!! deadeye ive
Speak to Lurcherboy .....He has a version that attaches to your scope and rates it highly ........Although at air rifle distances . Alot of gimmicks out there and if your the sort thats flush for cash go ahead .............As for myself ,I'd cancel the .22lr and apply for a .17HMR ............Superb tool ,put some decent glass on it and pop rabbits off at 125 yds with a decent lamp .............All that will still be cheaper than a decent NV set up
il cacciatore
I'm not flush for cash so cant afford one come to think of it. As for binning the .22lr, the forms already away. If I knew the land that I would be getting now, I would have applied for the .308 as well (cause its massive).

A simple phone call my friend ............You have nothing to loose and everything to gain by applying for both calibres .........Get the .17 first though ................
