a wee Doe

Hiya,

I decided to have another crack this morning at at getting the venison sorted for Christmas dinner, so headed out to the farm first thing. Over the last few weeks I've been seeing the roe but for various reasons just ain't been able to get a safe shot at any of them.

it was looking like today was going to go the same way, I had walked round most of the permission without seeing any but seeing loads of signs that they were about. I decided rather than continually wandering about I would sit down in a spot with a good view and wait there for half an hour or so.

I was probably there about 20 min when i caught a bit of white out the corner of my eye moving through trees about 150 yrds to my left, a quick check with the binos showed it was in fact 3 does working their way through the trees. There was no way I could get a shot from my vantage point but as I had a good idea where they were heading I decided to move and set up at another spot where I had a clear view of the small clearing next to the hole in the fence they use.

As i got into position I seen the first of them slowly working its way down through the trees towards the clearing 140 yards away. I chambered a round in the triple, put the safety off and watched the spot where I expected it to come out through the scope.

After what seemed like an age, a doe came into view then stopped broadside onto me, I quickly took the shot and down she went .. result :)

And to make things even better I don’t have to butcher this one myself, It's going into a local collage to be used as part of a class and I’ll get it all back professionally butchered.. result :)

I spent the rest of the day wandering about looking for signs of fox, seems to be a few about :good: I also watched the flock of about 300 Greylags and 50 Canadas (never seen the thousand or so :look: ) that have been on and off the farm for the last few weeks and cleared up the enpty cases left buy three "shooters" that were out after them yesterday

well done buddy.

just a point of note, take a little time to "pose" the deer, try laying it on its belly or with its back towards the camera, or try different angles till it looks "right" and make something more of the photo, after all you eat the carcass and keep the photo.
