SittingBull
It's probably just overpriced! There are plenty out there both cheaper and much more expensive! e.g. this "military" jacket: http://www.farfetch.com/shopping/men/balmain-military-jacket-item-10102095.aspx
blowin
According to the blurb, this magnificent coat can be 'deployed quickly if the weather turns bad' – as opposed to normal, cheaper coats that can take hours to swing into action. Steel100
That cheap! Look at some of the top end skiing jackets or the Belstaff range. You can easily pay eight or nine hundred if you are that way inclined! A
Vipa
Arcteryx is normally significantly more expensive than rival brands... I had an AT goretex shell a few years ago, cost me £399 when the alternatives from Berghaus, TNF etc were £199... damned good kit though, quite difficult to find in the UK but it's just the Gucci syndrome... A Rolex watch, whilst nice isn't in real terms worth £5,000 you are paying for the privilage of waving the name round on your wrist, AT are the sort of Rolex of the mountaineering world... But at the end of the day.... it's just a Goretex Shell! Edited December 14, 2011 by Vipa

Vipa
Something else I've just noticed too... It have a NATO stocking number and is 'only available to law enforcement and armed forces' they probably add 75% to the price as they know it will be gov't departments signing the cheques.... and we all know how much bigger their cheque books are than ours! Oddman
Bought my Arc'teryx Jacket in '97 and still going strong. At the time they were way ahead of the game making the mainstream brands like Berghaus and North Face look like trash. I've used it (and other AT bits and pieces)for fairly hardcore activities like ski touring and mountaineering. They are beautifully fitted and engineered. They tend to be very 'pure' like shell garments, mid layers. This suits my purpose for mountaineering as you are very aerobically active and you need a very wide range of movement, room in the hood for a helmet inside a hood and ventilation. However I wouldn't consider it for shooting (apart from being red) I think the Scandinavian brands are much more suitable for fieldsports. My Harkila paclite goretex jacket is easily the equal of the equivalent Arcteryx - if the logos were swapped you wouldn't know and although he RRP is around the same, shooting gear always seems to be more deeply discounted than the mountaineering brands
