308 case resizing

Recommended Posts

Quick question on resizing 308 once fired brass, started off with some once fired from another rifle so full sized and had some really excellent and consistent results, now I have started neck sizing these very same cases. With the 243 there is quite a noticable differance in accuracy between neck and full resizing but with the 308 it seems to be the opposite, neck sizing seems less acurate than the fully sized. I'm loading 150gr sierra gameking and am wondering if its a neck tension issue ( using Lee collet die which are usually pretty good) The Tika likes a 2'800 AOL which does'nt leave alot of bullet in the case.

There is a high possibility its pilot error, but just thought I would ask anyway.

Happy Newyear to you all.

I think any noticable difference between neck and full length sizing in terms of accuraccy are generally down to the die quality or setting up of them. I used to feel differently like many others but it just aint so that neck sizing shoots tighter than full length, all things being equal that is

You read so much about neck sizing being more accurate but as I've gained more experience in reloading I have seen it swing either way. Neck sizing is obviously easier on the brass though full sizing 308 does not seem to lengthen cases as much as it does 243, only time will tell how long the cases will last. With 243 I have been neck sizing after initial firing in my rifle for 5 reloads, then full size once and back to neck. I have had dented necks from being over excited with the case lube but some of my early federals are well over ten reloads.
