demonwolf444
Im really quite new to ferreting, basically my question is, is it okay to feed a ferret a freshly shot pigeon if its shot with an air rifle, without digging around in it to remove the pellet? I read something about frounce or something and paniced..
D_No
As far as I know, Frounce is an infection that passes from bird to bird so infected pigeons can pass it too raptors, never heard of it in ferrets. If your worried about lead poisoning you could, as you say, dig the pellet out but in my experience, even with shotgun pellets in a bunny or bird, the ferrets are fine and seem not to eat any that are in the flesh with the majority being removed along with the guts. compo90
ferrets are prone to botulism infections...... I have heard the best advice is to freeze the pigeon for a few days , then fully defrost and feed.....its also meant to kill other bacteria and keep the ferret healthy
