snowz
All you frontera owners speak up, i am looking to change from my trooper to one and want to hear all the good and bad stories. Looking for a diesel one but which engine to go for anything to look out for in particular on any models any info appreciated Atb Richard
M.I.A
I had an 02 frontera RS 2.2 DTI and the fuel pump failed, cost a small fortune to fix, also my speedo stopped working which is also quite common, other than that there good wagons. You would be better off buying one where the fuel pump has failed and been fixed
Beardo
I have a series B 2.0 petrol swb. Never had and complaints, its been a brilliant shooting wagon. I replaced the exhaust when I first got it £60, put amazon mud tyres on it. Rubbish fuel economy but that's not what I bought it for. Love the removable roof for lamping
snowz
Cheers for the info so far. There does seem to be a few petrol one my way but i prefer diesel as would be occasional towing. Whats the mpg like on petrol and the diesels Will also be a 5 door easier for kids and room for dogs. What are the auto boxes like
Gordon R
2.2 diesel 1998 onwards. 38mpg. Excellent - nothing less.

Beardo
I'm nearer 20mpg with the 2.0 petrol and mud tyres
snowz
I'm nearer 20mpg with the 2.0 petrol and mud tyres I'd be lucky to get that with my 3.1 trooper on MT
silver pigeon 3
Go for a series a 2.8TD, cracking engine pretty bullet proof and top for towing & crawling through mud. My old girl is getting a bit tired in the body now so looking at swopping the 2.8Td into a later model Frontera.
snowz
What are the V6 on gas like?
Andy75
I've had 4 of them - 2.0 rev A, 2.4 rev A, 2.8 rev A, 3.2V6 rev B. The 3.2V6 was my favourite, but returned 18-22mpg on average. Fantastic leather interior, all the toys, and a manual gearbox. Don't touch the 3.2 with an autobox, they can't suffer the torque. I did most off-road with the 2.0 rev A though, and it was really good, if a little agricultural. I do wish I still had the V6 tho :(
Wookie
I had a Series B 2.2 DTi LWB. Great thing it was too (230k miles), but it started going wrong, so it had to go. I had the dash problem (speedo not working), had to replace many front calipers and eventually had fuel tank issues, but it was a good car. Average fuel economy with road bias tyres on was about 35 mpg. Has a low ratio box as well, so when I did go green laning I wasn't totally lost. If I could have one again, I'd probably go for the V6 petrol B Series and get it on LPG. It's a cracking engine and means that it shifts a lot quicker than the diesel version. vampire
I have the swb series a 2.0ltr petrol, low twenties mpg and writing home about the performance would be quicker other than that with the grabbers on it is a fantastic shooting wagon with faultless performance, although i am now looking for something bigger like a 300tdi disco The 2.2 2.8 diesels are the better engines, get a long wheel base if you want to use it for family stuff as its a climb in job to get at back seats on a swb with small boot space. Get yourself over to 'muddyfronteras' for a look at what can be done and advice
