I do believe that any charges they apply for such eventualities must be fair and reasonable. i.e. they would have to prove that it has cost them 60% of the policy already in order to reclaim such an amount. Just because its in their T&C's doesnt make it legally correct, I suspect you'd get it reduced at the very least. If you like, I'll try to find the legal basis for what I am saying PM me if you so desire. PS. If you accepted their "invoice" and paid it, there might be less you can do.
