Shropshire_Lad
Hi, Looking to get a new pup but the wife has a worry. We have a springer that is 8 years old and other than my shooting partners dogs has had little to do with other dogs. Our springer is a bit loopy but as soft as a brush realy, any thoughts how she may cope with a new pup on the scene? I'm sure she will be fine but any of you guy's had any bad experiences? atvb Paul. Ian1513
Should be fine mate, just try and introduce them on neutral ground so the older dog doesn't get all territorial on the pup.
Smog On Tyne
i have a 9 year old lab bitch and we got a Springer dog, they have taken some time to settle but are getting there. The old bitch can be a bit grumpy when the little one wants to play.
oscarsdad
I am sure you will be fine...I have a 2.5 year old terrier and got a cocker pup at christmas...the terrier was a bit miffed to start with but now they are best of friends, just make sure the older dog has somewhere to go to escape the pup should it want to. mikey2341
8's not that old pal! I got a wirehaired vizsla pup in July and my 11 year old lurcher gets on great with her - He's getting long in the tooth and not up for much vigorous playing so the pup ends up frustrated as he wont play. I'm sure they will get on fine, might take a week or so for them to find their boundaries with each other though (ie how far can the pup push the older dog!) arwen3513
I got a GWP pup when my Bouvier was 9, the Bouvier got a second wind, prior to pup she would plod along, but with the pup she enjoyed her walks more and played some chase games. go for it, so long as the older dog still gets its attention, they will learn their place together.
