eccles
My mate Ian rang last night wanted to do a bit of shooting over his young cocker. His cocker is by FTCH Wetlands Abe,a lovely gold lemon bitch. We went to a place with a B road top side of a long wood about 600y long 50 to 70 yards wide slope 50%.I said i'd take top side with my cocker by FTCH Chyknell Goldstar as no fence to stop dog getting on road.Started hunting his bitch working nice i flushed 2 hen pheasants which flew over his dog Ian fired a shot his dog dropped to shot nice.Flush about another dozen birds some of which were saluted with a shot.Dog remained steady So i said next bird flushed to shoot it,my dog then flushed a couple more pheasants Ian shot 1 his dog then sent for retrieve which she did quite nicely. Both dogs then flushed about 20 or so pheasants in remainder of wood, some just saluted with a shot. We then went to a pond so dog to sit with Ian i went to far end to flush ducks about 40 teal got up in small bunches Ian had a good few shots but missed  But dog stayed quite steady.Which was the lesson anyway We then went back above the road where we started from.We hunted the bracken bank above road flushed about 15 pheasant, couple of rabbits. My dog flushed a cock bird i shot it,it rolled and bounced down hill about 70y.Asked Ian if he wanted the retrieve he said ok.He sent dog took a few goes to get to it.Then started to play with it,go to then coming back to and for but not picking it up.So i said send her again,so as she got to it playing again i sent my dog she soon picked it up. Only do this if you can stop your dog form taking the retrieve off another dog. So we ending the training there

You obviously know your bloodlines with the pedigrees you have quoted but what has made you now go for a maesydderwen dog?
eccles
You obviously know your bloodlines with the pedigrees you have quoted but what has made you now go for a maesydderwen dog? Hi Reason iv'e gone for a pup by FTCH Scimiter is because iv'e seen a good few dogs by him. And seen Peter's dogs in trials over many years now.Had two friends who called for a bit of advice with litter brother + sister from Scimiter, and they where little cracker's both would have trialed or made first class shooting dogs. We are lucky these days for cockers, with breeders like Peter Jones,Simon Tyres,Wendy + Ian Openshaw, the Clulee's ,the Colcloughs, and many more.On making the Cocker a great working dog. Years ago the breed was very poor. Another breeder i must mention is Cyril from the (Wernffrwd) kennels. I'm sure most dogs have his dogs in pedigree
