FAC Air Rifles

One for the FAC holders and a little open, but propmted by a local boy on the BBS selling a Mk2 Rapid FAC in .22, I was wondering what sort of range the rifle might give in the field.

I realise this is a question of power so lets just say 30ft/lb unless you think otherwise. What sort of realistic range would I get on a Rabbit? And what range would you zero at?

Thanks in advance fellas.

Oh and Ive, its to sit alongside the .17HMR whilst the LR barrel is in the safe. Yeah i know, it will probably stay that way too, before you get it in.:D

I'll speak for myself here Axe

I'm zero'd for 50m (60 yds ) and operate as a rule no further than 80yds weather permitting .......With this sort of power and a 14 grn acupel you'll have some serious flat shooting ..........I use the 16 grain AA field and I've found over the years that from 30yds up to 60 just put the cross air on target and bingo !after that i'm allowing for holdover ........for 8oyds i simply put the cross air just above the ears if they are sticking up. :good: ...........I should add that I use my range finder alot when out with the air rifle .

35 ft lbs would be my prefered ft poundage mate .........975 fps

Snap!!.............I'm just glad your starting to see the light :good::good: ..........You'll find it'll be alot more a versatile combination :D

Thats not too bad then, I could certainly live with that. I'm guessing, but I assume the Rapid can be adjusted in power and no i'm not asking for an explanation on how its done (before someone jumps in).

There is quite a drop off after the 60 yards though. Ear tips at 80 yards, whats that 4 inches or so. Perhaps I should play around with chair gun.

Thanks Ive, I knew you'd come though mate. Just out of interest, what scope height do you have?

Yes ......it's on it's limits but will still kill humanely ...........Mine has 50 shot capability but the long range 80 yd stuff is usually in the middle ,say after 10 shots and before 35 because of the power band .........The first and last few shots are 32 ft lb and they build up to 35 ft lb .............I know this rifle like the back of my hand so it ain't a problem :good:

I think the scope hieght is 1.5"

The Rapids are easy to adjust the power..........Hawkeye and kdubya are the men to speak to as they have FAC Rapids

Ignor chairgun would be my advice and find out what she'll do in the field :good:

my rapids running at 30 and 40 ftlbs respective are zero'd at 40 and 45 yards this gives me a (non thinking)

point and hit zone of around 15 to 55 yards using aa fields ie the kill zone of a rabbits bonce is within this tolerace trajectory wise! for longer shots, which I admit to taking, at 80 yards MY absolute MAX we are talking 5 to 6 inches hold over? really speaking 60 yards up is rimmie territory, that said if you KNOW your gun and have both the confidence and ability to take long distance bunnies go for it, fac air is a VERY underated tool , whilst I have rimmie and hmr as well as the rapids, the rapids take many many more rabbits and are used at least twice EVERY week.

as for shot count I am not actually sure what i get with the 30lb gun? I have never fired more than 72 shots

(6 mags) should imagine high eighties easy available, my 40lb gun gives 55 VERY consistent shots before running out of puff, again more than enough for a session.

cheers KW
