BRAD1927
Hi guys/gals Just like to see if we could start a thread regarding good and bad clay ranges? This thread is NOT for bad press but more of an idea of good or bad places to practice. I visited Minsterley ranges yesterday (see link below)as you will see the shop/ranges looked very promising.(do not be fooled) To my dismay when I arrived the ground was actually in a poor condition, several traps not working (awaiting batteries) very poorly laid out considering the prime land they have. Cost was £7.50 for 25 birds also needed carts while I was there did not offer any discount so had to pay full whack on a slab which worked out at £60 for Fiocchi traps 28g 7.5. The shop had very little stock and did not even hold the basics such as snap caps, bore flags and was very run down. On a positive note they trusted me with the case of shells and there is no tally on the number of clays you use just tell them how many you used at the end. Can honestly say that although I only visited for some practice prior to a game day coming up on Saturday I probably won't use this facility again. http://www.minsterleyranges.com/clay.htm

BerettaSV10
Was also thinking of going there, but others said I would be dissapointed if I went, so never went, sounds like it was good advice. Think I will stick to other grounds like the west mids shooting ground and doveridge.

Salopian
Minsterley needs a good kick up the backside, a good venue going to waste because of lazy staff. *** how much effort does it take to set a claytrap or two up permanently, charge the batteries up and put some clays in? It is open seven days a week unlike many of the grounds listed above. Just a minimum of effort required and they would have a little gem. For anyone in South Shropshire it is a struggle to find somewhere to shoot. Griffin Lloyd, Mid Wales, and Haimwood are all a decent trek. Dunkield
In their defence they are primary a shop with a couple of ranges and some clay traps (or they were the last time I went) for you to try before you buy. I bought my Tikka there plus loads of other gear and apart from the bloke wandering off for breakfast half way through serving me they couldn't have been more helpful. The even let me go down the range with 3 or 4 brand new top end scopes scopes before I decided which one to buy.
Salop Matt
Mickly hall on sunday Brad ! The potential for Minsterly is massive but if they would just have some stuff on the shelves and be more friendly and lower costs am sure people would use them far more ! I would love to use them for there 100 meter range to zero up my HMR but not at there prices for occasional use !
Dunkield
How much do they charge for the range these days?

The shop had next to no stock on the shelves, as for the pictures on their website of clothes rails, CUSTOMERs and what looks to be a pleasant atmosphere sadly not. I am a firm believer in first impressions and on that basis I shan't be going back
Shropshire_Lad
Its a real shame Minsterly has gone pear shaped. A few years ago it was a realy good place with a well stocked shop and very busy. The clay Pigeon side of things was taking off and they had quite a good high tower as well. Very sad to see it going down hill as I'm sure it could be back on track with a little hard work. Brad, Matt, would be up for a shoot on sunday, if you can get to mine you can hitch a ride. atvb Paul.
