oilyrag
Around 43mm on the base of my Maxus Composite fore end, but it does taper inwards slightly the closer the fore end gets towards the barrel.

casts_by_fly
it depends on the gun. Benelli and other short recoil guns will be thinner. Gas guns will be thicker for the gas tube. A long recoil will be closer to a gas gun. thanks rick
HDAV
IF anyone else can offer a measurement that would be grand its at the nut/gas port end if any variance that is of interest. Many thanks to those who have replied.
