Cranfield
Just a "postscript" to my earlier comment. Like most people, I do most of my missing early in the day, before I "get my eye in". Thats when I rack up the low percentages, then things generally get better. Although I don't do a lot of clay shooting, I always have a session on the "practise" stand, before I start marking my card. I usually shoot quite well on a standard sporting layout. Perhaps we should all have the first hour decoying as a "practise" and start calculating our averages after that.

invector
Catamong, Then I must be phenomenal!! I've been shooting pigeons a lot longer than you mate. and I've got it down to a fine art. I don't think shooting one pigeon for two cartridges is unusual, even though I have shot two with the same cartridge, at times. Strange thing is the one you shoot at is often winged, and the one you didn't mean to shoot is stone dead!! Apparently a good all round average would be 3:1, (cartridges to kills.) Just in case you misunderstood my average of 2:1 is cartridges to kills, not two pigeons to one cartridge, but then again you knew that didn't you? They call it a sense of humour.
