stirky
Decided to try for a buck thats been fraying some trees in the plantation. The wind was good for the high seat on the corner, so that was my place for the evening. I had been sat there for about an hour when a doe walked out with a playfull fawn, up near the gate, i had ranged it earlier and it gave me the reading of 137 yds, she wanderd off to the left and dissapeared from view into the bracken and trees. With the rut getting closer it was a good bet that there would be a buck not far away, sure enough after about one minute out came the buck on the same line as the doe, i had the rifle on the crossbar ready, he crossed the track but stood in the bracken for a few seconds just giving me the view of his head, neck and half his body, just long enough to get a shot off, a bit high but a very quick kill breaking his spine. gibby
Nice buck there... Have got me itching to go out again this weekend for one now. What are you running through your rifle? The .243 seems to knock em down alright. Gibby

Holland&Holland
hmm I understand about the passport but .... you can tell it's age by looking at the bottom of its antlers, if they are wide or not, the ware and condition of the teeth, and after removing the skin of the head by the grooved line across the forehead and the lenght of the nose bone. So just interested, not trying to be a wise***
stirky
Hi Frank, the rifle is a tikka 595dl in .243. The scope on at the moment is a leuopold 8.5-25x50lrt, its not my main stalking scope but a new toy thats going on my .223 cooper when it arrives later this year, but i had to try it, its too much scope for stalking. My main stalking scope is another leuoplod but a 4.5-12x50 varmit hunter reticule. H&H i think the buck is two years old certainly no more than three. A good age for eating. Dont forget lads you wont get owt sat at home get out n get it done, even if its with your camera.

You can have a guess if its a young, middle or old one. There is only one method to get results with the clearness of +- 1 year. its developed by the Institute for game and hunting here in Goettingen at the University of Gottingen Link [german].
