Big Dog
Hi Guys. Been a while since I last placed a post. Tonight I was loading some 6.5x55 rounds and some of my Federal brass which has been use a few times dropped out the primers and the primer just dropped in. The same primers fitted other cartridges ok. Has anyone found this happening with theirs?? Is it an expansion issue?? I am stalking this weekend so don't want to end up with rounds that go click  Love to hear you thoughts BD
deershooter
Sounds like an over pressure problem ,did you load maximum loads last time or was the bullet head touching the lands of the rifling? What powder primer bullet did you use? and what was the c.o.l? the cases are now scrap Deershooter

Oly
I think you have misunderstood the use of this smily, it means I wholeheartedly agree with your post. It's irony, no offence meant, quite the opposite I'm fact. Edited February 8, 2012 by Oly

garyb
Agree with the above, and Mr Stupid Slack primer pockets are more than likely over pressure or the brass is now beyond it's lifetime. Scrap it, and have a GOOD look at your load data and processes again.
Imperfection
Normally the first sign of over pressure is a primer which is forced out of the pocket slightly which is kinda noticable. My guess is the brass is simply getting old-time to replace! deershooter
Imperfection , I have come across exessevely flattened primers but not ones that have come out of the pockets, surley if this is the case your headspace must be well out normally on firing the pressure forces the case against the bolt face and when pressure is excessive the primer flows in to any recess around the primer pocket would this not only hapen on a semi auto ? Deershooter I had a few old 7.92 milsurp once which recoiled badly and the primers in all had been pushed out enough to be noticable.I've had flattened primers when trying different loads in 303,but i stop firing when i see that and pull the rounds. Redgum
Its not the first time I have heard of Federal cases and loose primers, maybe the brass is a tad softer or pockets slightly bigger to start. Have notice Federals have some sort of coloured lock adhesive around the primer on their factory ammo, maybe this has something to do with it. As said by others its best to check your data, though I'm sure you know what your doing. I bought 20 sako hammerheads in 308 150gr once as I was out of bullet heads and 8 of em had the primers fall out on ejection, no other signs of pressure, stiff bolt is usually the first sign of getting a bit high. Bin the brass though.
