Which Weihrauch?

Hi,

Sorry is this has been done before:

I'm gonna splash out on a hunting rifle and I've set my heart on a Weihrauch. I'm just not sure which one to go for. I'm pretty new to hunting, but I'm not one to get cheap stuff to start with so I wanna get a daddy of a rifle.

I'm going to be using it for rabbits, pigeons, squirrels etc. I dunno whether I should get an underlever or not, or a carbine or not. I definitely want a silencer, and a dedicated scope weapon. I had a look at a HW 97K in my local shop which felt amasing, compared to the HW 80 that they had. These are the only Weihrauchs they had so are there any others I should check out? Or would the 97k be the business?

Also, would a 3-9x50 scope be preferable over a 40? They seem to be available for about £70 off the web which seems good.

Many thanks for your help.

Weihrauch are one of the top makes in springers if not the top. Underleavers are said to be more accurate because of the fixed barrel, silencers are good for hunting as the do not frighten quarry. The HW97 is a very good gun much better than the HW80, there are a lot of decent makes of air rifles like BSA or Webley to consider also. A 3-9x50 gathers more light and so you can use it more into the night than a 3-9x40, scopes are best to buy secondhand.

If you need any more help then drop me a PM!

My weihrauch I bought in 1987 so its nearly twenty years old.

It still shoots 12ftlbs

Its heavy

It has a barrel about six inches longer than a webley

Sights are tasco and more than adequate for the range.

but It still groups overlapping at 20M and thats good enough for me.

It shoots squirrels and rabbits off the sticks like no other.

So, yes, get one, look after it and it'll last you a lifetime.

There's no substitute for quality.

are you set on a springer or would you entertain a PCP? I really like the HW100T - it's a great gun that will be my next air rifle purchase for sure :)

Hi, yeah reckon I want a springer. I like the simplicity. Pocket full of pellets and off you go  Possibly a gas-ram, but then they need a pump don't they?

Do people reckon it's worth getting an underlever? I kind of reckon they spoil the appearance of a rifle..

Also, is it simple to fit a nice silencer to any rifle? Or should I be looking to buy one that is factory fitted?

I have had my HW80K for more than 10 years now. It's brutally effective on all small vermin. It's also built with typical German precision. It's had thousands of rounds through it, and never failed once.

If I was buying another springer it would be an HW90. Gas rams are the way ahead.

Thanks for everyone's help, I am now the proud owner of a HW 97k! It's very nice and I've just bagged my first rabbit this morning. Well chuffed! It's now skinned and in the fridge for tomorrow evening's dinner

i own a HW90K in .22

i have just recently got a pcp, but the 90k will stay in my armory!!

i iv had a AA TX200hc & Theoben Sirocco 2000 & W Stingray K and none of these compare to my hw90k!! not even close
