LondonLuke
Hi all Apologies I'm still new so might be stupid suggestion but did search and couldn't see this covered previously I'm am interested to see if people think the Olympics will be good or bad for shooting? I can imagine people watching it on tv and thinking they want to start, then an influx of new members, but many giving up once realising the have to apply for licence etc I can see the clubs/grounds very busy soon after too? Keen to hear others thoughts and apologies if mentioned a thousand times before.

I think by and large we'll host a good games and it will be a boost for tourism and the economy. However, I doubt that there'll be much TV coverage of the shooting events, there hasn't been in other Olympics. Expect a few brief clips of Richard Faulds or any other medal hopefuls at 3 AM when there's nowt else on, but probably well below synchronised swimming and ping pong in the pecking order. Unfortunately, as challenging and exciting as they are are for participants, the Olympic shooting disciplines are not really spectator sports (10m air pistol anyone). Having said that, I have tickets and will be there Biggest shame about the whole thing is that the shooting venue will be bulldozed when the games are over. Instead of being built at Bisley to leave a legacy Edited February 25, 2012 by Blunderbuss
HDAV
I doubt it will have a significant impact due to politics in fighting and an upset Labour female minister and the backlash....if you believe the rumour. We could win 3 Golds and will get less TV time than every other sport not exactly riveting viewing TBH. Less so than darts or snooker at present! Biggest issue is the temp venue which means you cant even pay silly money to shoot the Olympic targets for a laff after the games (not many places have full facilities for the Olympic disciplines as it is). Good luck to the GB team and i hope they bag some medals I have tickets to a skeet event so there will be at least one spectator who shoots rather than just getting the last available tickets to say they went! Dekers
This can easily cover old ground of the tragedy of Bisley not getting an Olympic legacy. Dear oh dear!
