Losing shoot!!

Recommended Posts

Sad times. The local shoot which myself and the brother in law took over the keepering of when the farmer had a stroke is closing down. The land is owned by the church and they have decided to run it themselves! Over the last couple of years we have improved the shoot, taking average days from 30s to having 80s and a couple of 100s this season. Very dissapointed in the lack of communication from the agent. They seem to think they can put on corporate days shooting 400 birds! Its only a small woodland shoot of around 150 acres with a bit of grass land around the edges. As a result of this i may need to sell my centrfire as i wont have land cleared for its use. Really fed up with the whole thing. Anybody else had this happen? Seems quite common nowadays.

Two of my customers are in the same situation, put in all the work to make the shoots a success with very good returns. The land owners think they can do the same but with 4x the number of birds on land that can't take really take that many birds and make money at the same time.

Give it a season or two and they would of lost enough money to lose interest.

Sickening.

I know how much time and effort is put into running even a small shoot, then to have it taken away from you after doing the hard yards and turning it into a success.

Not much I can say other than keep looking out for another bit of ground or another shoot needing a part time keeper, Good Luck.

Everyone should listen to this man.

People like to talk **** about what they don't know about (I'm one for this), they'll have a couple of expensive seasons and ****** of guns at ****ty results, and with the stress of it all they will let you back on after a few years.
