They way it works in Ireland is the main hunting organisation the NARGC to which most hunting clubs are attached hold a vermin competition each year. Clubs are broken down into church parishs (or near enough)

So each county has a vermin competition, so in Feburary and March a county count is done

We have a large chest freezer which we normally store stuff but to costly to run for the year.

The points are allocated as follows.. they also take into account the number of members per club as some are quite large. (only 29 members in my club)

Mink - 20 points

Fox (Tail only) - 10 points

Magpies - 8 points

Grey Crows - 8 point

Pigeon, jackdaw, crow, - 1 point

Our club won in 2003, 2004 (we lost last year as I was working in England no one to motivate the lads and get larsen and mink traps out to Farmers and members)

As the Treasurer of my club I have invested in 4 new larsen traps and 2 more mink traps this year alone..

Same in my club in my part of the country.

Eoin, do you get points for the foxes if they have been lamped?

As in our club, its foxes that are shot on a sunday shoot only, that count.

Some clubs count in lamped ones aswell, they all seem to have different rules.

Eoin

If you want a cheap way of preserving the tails just get some mineralised Meths spirits (Cheap as chips ) to fill a bucket up ..........Pour some crushed sea salt down the tail core (optional ) then place in the bucket and cover over  ................The core goes hard after a time but it works

All in where we are... we did no beating last year again due to little or no organisation hopefully this year..

Got 10 more last night in a five hour session, no pictures i'm afraid. Might get one of the tails later.

I wish our club was the same,' All In', ours seems to consentrate more on sundays, from october to March.

10 last night?, were they all adults, or a mixture of cubs and adults?

Hell of a lot of cubs about at present, i usually start seriouse lamping around September, it peaks in January & Febuary and after that, the vixens got to ground.

Great shooting eoin. :D

Couple of questions though! What do you receive should you win this comp, also what do you class as a grey crow? :D:D

Normally a voucher for vermin traps etc.. (braging rights over our neighbouring club)

and of course the satisfaction of keping vermin levels down

A grey crow is really a Hooded Crow (Corvus corone cornix as my grandad taught me) just called a grey crow by most in these parts. (See my previous post todays kills for a picture)

We have 4 types of crows in this country - Hooded, Rook, Raven and jackdaw. no carrion crow as far as i'm aware.

Grey crow=carrion in the UK and as you said Eoin, Hooded crow, which is also common in Scotland.

We also have the Rook, jay and Magpie. :D
