Cold Frames

Recommended Posts

Thanks to the extremely generous Ant.Mass (nuff respec') I was able to complete my latest garden project – a set of cold frames to kick-start my pea-growing.

Having recently deconstructed the sturdy slatted shelves from the old airing cupboard, there was no shortage of wood in New Seagrave Towers for the frames. A couple of coats of B&Q’s finest dark oak stain later, and they were ready to be finished off.

The twinwall polycarbonate was somewhat thicker than I had originally planned on using, but this wasn’t a problem, as the frames were pretty stout (¾” x 1 ¾”). Ant also donated some clear acrylic sheets that were absolutely perfect for the fronts. The jigsaw made light work of all of it (nice one Dad!). :good:

Finished dimensions are 24” x 12” for the base, and 13 ¾” high at the back (i.e. a foot, plus the depth of the frame).

That's a 6' row of peas just waiting to happen. Nice.

:D

PS: This took me almost all of Saturday, whereupon I got it in the neck from Lady Seagrave (who had left careful house-based DIY instructions) on Saturday evening, and calls anything to do with the garden "playing". :/
