njc110381
Hey guys. Today I had a look at an old side by side shotgun. It was pretty untidy but could be brought back to life and as it's English I think it may be worth some time and effort? The only info I have is the maker name and model which is engraved into the top rib... Holloway & Naughton Ltd. Makers. Birmingham. "The Vesey" Any clues? Harnser
Lots of these old so called English guns were in fact Belgian guns finished in Birmingham and stamped with an ironmongers name and sold on the cheap as an english gun . They were known in their day as an ironmongers gun . Harnser .
Salopian
Holloway & Naughton was a prolific manufacturer in Brum. Name now owned by Andrew Harvison who should have the history of the gun although all records were lost in the war. The name used to be owned by Frank Wiseman who used to work for them. You may get a little help from Wiseman's of Cannock
caeser
Holloway and Naughton are still going. They have a good website, check that out. I'm sure they'll be only too glad to give you some info on the gun too.
njc110381
Thanks chaps. After I posted I headed off to Google and did a search. Found the website and have sent an e-mail. Now all I have to do is deal with the gun. It was found in a barn so no certificate holder to be found. Hopefully I can get it on my certificate if it is of any value so the owner of the gun (well the owner of where it was found) can decide what to do with it. evo
i would certainly check with the local feo over the gun because you dont know who,s hands its been in considering it was found in a barn,,but good luck with it anyway best to be safe than sorry  Edited March 7, 2012 by evo
HDAV
The finder can hand it in to an RFD IIRC correctly who can then legitimise it and put on your cert or FEO can, is it looking like its still in proof?
njc110381
That's the plan. I've left a message with my RFD to get back to me ASAP. It can be entered on his register and then to my certificate no problem. It's not a post office gun - more an old farmers tool that didn't get noticed when they passed away I should think.
