peddy53
Hi so im thinking of buying a smk custom db4( I know chinese **** guns ) to start with so i can practice first and get a bit of experience and then spend some money on a proper one when having. so basically my thoughts are the same a giving a car to a new driver an rubish one until getting some experience and then get something better. Am I thinking right? Thanks in advance
durbsguy
Agreed up until a point. If you are not entirely happy with your equipment you are less likely to use it and if you buy something of a descent quality it will last, got my hw77 at 11 and still using it now, 18 years later

bruno22rf
If you buy a poo gun your results, allowing for inexperience, will be worse than poo.You may well become frustrated as your increase in skills may become blurred by the fact that your equipment is not up to your standard-the saying "buy cheap-buy twice" is spot on in your case.Look to spend every penny you can on the gun itself-if the gun is ,in any way, below par then the money spent on scopes and pellets is wasted. If I were you I would hold on for a little while longer and try to get another £50-at the moment you can afford to take your pick of any cheap gun you like-but a bit more will bring the likes of second hand Weirauchs and Air Arms TX200's into your reach.Reasonable quality scopes (JSR or Hawke)are available at bargain prices and moderators etc can be added as,and when, funds allow.Go for a .177-its easier to shoot accurately and the pellets are a little cheaper. Its a buyers market so dont just buy the first gun you see-in fact I would suggest that you view several before deciding and would suggest posting you choice on this forum for potential pitfalls concerning any gun you may be interested in.Check out guns a little above your price range-you might find that you fall in love with one in particular that is worth saving a little longer for.Good Luck and keep us posted

Better safety catch than the damned Webley too! Edited March 16, 2012 by secretagentmole

secretagentmole
The Hatsan 55 and the Hatsan 60 also have open sights so you can use them straight out of the box, BSA rifles, especially brummie made Supersports, are perfectly happy killing pigeons with metal sights, I could not say how I possibly could know that, but getting a good kill with open sights is a heck of a feeling!
