PotHunter96
hi all i am a 14 year old shooter, i have 5 years experience with air rifles and 4 years with shotgun. I am really wanting to get into rifle shooting, and have already been very kindly offered to be taken out with another member of this forum, to use his rifles under his supervision. and i was hoping that, maybe next year i could apply for my firearm licence and be gifted a rifle from another certificate holder. I just want to know a few things; 1.how are derbyshire contstabulary with young shooters and firearms? (i have already put in for my SGC and am awaiting a phone call) 2. what should i put in for i would be hoping to shoot- fox, rabbit, magpie, crows and i realize that a centre fire would be very difficult as i only know one farm with deer and have not asked for permission there yet. 3.when should i apply, could i apply soon or should i just forget the whole thing and wait untill i am 18. thank you ATB
Beretta28g
You cannot use anyones rifles unless you have a licence for their rifle. The estate provision only applies to those over 17.

Guess this bit off BASC is not that new then • NEW - The occupier or servant must be aged 18 years of age or older whenever they are lending to the 17 year old age group. For borrowers aged 18 or older the lending certificate holder may be of any age. Must research before answering threads.

MiLisCer
You have some very good clubs close to you, you could join one of these before getting your FAC learn about safe gun handling, do their probationary course and then have a good reason for your FAC (you would still need land/permission to have them conditioned for vermin though) http://www.drpc1999.com/ - Derby Rifle and Pistol Club http://www.leekshooting.co.uk/ - Leek Shooting centre http://www.uttoxeter-rifle-club.co.uk/ - Uttoxeter Rifle Club Regards Mike (there are others too!, another in Leek, Swandlicotte etc )
JonathanL
Definitely agree with the club thing. Will make things much easier in the future as you won't need to have land for your application. Also helps if you ever lose the land you shoot over. J.
