Murray
Want to make a wooden gun carry case for my X20 Suppressor, want to include a small box in the corner to hold pellets ect (image of pellet box attatched). First of all im not sure what wood to use, i need strong but light wood preferably. Second i have no clue were to pick up some egg foam to line the inside. Any ideas for clips/locks. I hope to varnish it and water proof it, but i have no idea how to start the actual design. Many thanks Jack.
fenboy
Perhaps use a 4"x1" for the main frame then clad it with something like oak faced ply to make it lighter , make the whole thing as one solid box the cut in half on a table saw for best results
Murray
So cut a block in half, wouldn't i then have to make a recess into each block though to fit the foam and gun in? Sorry if i misinterpreted what you said, i'm new to this whole carpentry thing :S Jack
richard1951
unless someone can tell me a cheaper supplier of the egg foam it is not worth doing as the egg foam costs as much as one of the plastic gun cases avalable

What he meant was make the sides, install the top and bottom to make a complete box, then cut it in half lengthways to form the top and bottom of the box, that way you get a perfect fit between the two.
