Ferretboy111
Started lamping last night at around 11 with my mate farmerguy.22, saw a few rabbits on the first patch shot 1, moved over to the fields of peas which have just been cut didnt see any rabbits but saw first fox that ran a mile when it saw us, just a tad out of range for the .17hmr, was coming back and we saw another fox perfect range for my gun sat looking at us, sadly i missed it, such is life. All in all we shot 2 rabbits each so bringing the bag to 4, missed a fair few and saw 3 foxes, think ill get back on the range again only just getting used to me gun. We didnt get back till 2, so a late late night. Alex
al4x
were you going for head shots on the foxes or boiler room shots?
Frank
Not to worry, it has happened to us all, including me  , get some practice in and get them rabbits skined quick, they will go off in the hot sun. Frank.
Ferretboy111
I was going for head shots on them, best way! Went to the range today and found out that my zero was right off, at 100 yards it was hitting 2.5 inches low, now hitting insulation tape at 100 yards quite happily. Alex The fox was maxing it out really, i havent got my head around distances very well!
al4x
at the right range boiler room shots are better as you've more room for error and believe me they don't like it. Franks walloping them at 50 yards with a .22 rimmy you've far more power to play with with the hummer
Ferretboy111
oh right, kool, cheers 4 the tip, fingers crossed that the foxes aint lamp shy now, going to buy a call soon to vary from my hand squeaker. Alex
Axe
Alex i'd leave the foxes for a bit until you've got used to your setup. Personally I prefer to go for head shots and stick to within 70 yards on the fox regardless of the type of shot. Nothing wrong with chest shots at all but if your misjudging distances and your zero is shifting, its best to get that sorted first. Good shooting, once you've got your set-up sorted you'll soon have plenty of confidence, its a very inspiring round.
Ferretboy111
Yeah, my scope was out cos i cleaned it the day before checked it yesterday before going out and it was all over the shop so did a quite re zero but obviously not good enough, its sorted now though. Yeah just need abit more time with it, only had it 4 days and shot 150 rounds through it already, have u tried the rounds that ive just bought? 20grn hollowpoint cci's? crieffy
It took me a lot of practise on windy days with the HMR to get confident with it. It doesn't take much of a crosswind to be 3 or 4" off at 100 yards. One of the biggest problems I found is that it's hard to see where the rounds are going - never seem to get any puffs of dirt or grass flying up. Are you getting a moderator for your rifle? I was surprised at the difference it made on my one. Cheers, John
Ferretboy111
Certainly am, they didnt have any ultra's in when i went to the gun shop they were being proofed, so ill get one when they come in, i do like the loudness of it, but i dont think the people living near by do when we were shooting at 1 last night. Its been quite windy these past few days and havent had any shots which have been effected by it as yet, all gouping usually well.
