Cyrus88
Hi guys, looking for a bit of advice here. Just filling out my shotgun application, struggling with the counter signature part. It says: "someone who is resident in Great Britain and who has known the applicant for at least 2 years. The countersignatory must also be a Member of Parliament, Minister of religion, doctor, lawyer, established civil servant, bank officer or person of similar standing and not a member of the applicant’s family." When it says "person of similar standing" what kind of people are they wanting?

Cyrus88
I cant really think of anyone. I moved away from home for uni, graduated, got a job, then got another job just last year so not been in one place for more than a year. Cant really use any lecturers from uni, didn't really go to many lectures haha. Cant really use any teachers from school because there all so far away. Really stuck. Iggy
I'm sure you could ask either your GP or dentist to countersign, assuming you've been on their panel for a few years?
HDAV
Friend from uni who has known you 2 years or more and now works somewhere as something? Distance isn't an issue there is this great invention called the phone/post/email..... If you really have no one to ask perhaps you shouldn't have one! Cyrus88
So would a friend that was also an old boss do? I just worried about them not accepting it and having to wait even longer for it to go through.
bedwards1966
Depending what they do, probably. They just want someone who is of reasonable standing, such as a manager, farmer, club secretary, doctor, teacher - you get the picture. They must have known you personally for at least 2 years, but more is much better.

I just worried about them not accepting it and having to wait even longer for it to go through. Probably! What did they do then and now? It's rare for them to ask for a different referee and they don't ask them very much in my experience, not that I have been a referee but my missus has and for a renewal she wasn't even contacted!
