otherwayup
I've picked up a couple of YUASA NP7-12 valve regulated lead-acid rechargables from a scrap bin. They have a few small bulges in the tops with hairline cracks (left the others in bin which had big bulges and large cracks). Questions are: - Is potential failure of these batteries just going to manifest itself as failure to hold charge? (I.e. no spectacular noisy failures, with the burning, and the screaming and the acid raining down etc. etc.) - Can I find an old car battery charger that does trickle charge and use that on them? Cheers Edited April 16, 2012 by otherwayup
wymberley
Two questions: Why were they in the bin? Is a car battery charger trickle charge rate for a car battery - 30, 40,50+ Ah - the same as a trickle charge for a 7 Ah battery?
webber
If the batteries are bulged they are ********. webber
marmitemania
Do not take any risks with batteries I have seen one explode in someones face and it was not very nice, luckily there was an emegency eye wash very close to wash down the face and eyes. If they are bulging they sound like they have been overcharged and have probably boiled themselves dry. Put them back in the bin.
scott66
hi there is two things that go wrong with this type of battery 1 over charge ie car battery charger and 2 lack of charge if left for a long time without charge the plates will fur up so when you put them on charge it will short and bulge. hope this helps
