Kes
After years of promising, my son and I are having a lads week together sea fishing. I need to plan for a bit of travelling and a lot of catching. Happy to fish from shore or boat. I thought we'd do it the last week in May. Start in Wales and move northwards to scotland and try a few venues. We'll be in a hired mobile home and 'camp' at sites at, or between good fishing venues. I was thinking of trying a boat from Aberystwyth as the first event, moving up Cardigan bay and on to a venue on the Lleyn peninsula. So I would appreciate some help. What locations or boats can you guys recommend ? Any personal favourites/advice about the mackerel shoals and times of species showing at various locations. Any help would be appreciated with photos and a detailed blow by blow description posted when we get back. If you can help me make it a really special trip, that would be great. Thanks in advance. PigeonEater
I would start N Wales and work down, the fishing only gets harder as you go further North. As for Pen Llyn, you've got good Bass fishing around the old life boat station in Abersoch and also from the rocks below the yacht club. Off the beach at Aberdaron will put you into mixed species, as will St Marys head at the tip of the penisuala. On the North side of Pen Llyn, if you go to Whistling Sands or Porth Oer and fish from the rocks at either side of these beachs you should have some nice pollack etc. In the height of summer it is also quite likely you will mackerel feeding frenzys. From here personally i would head to Pembrokeshire coast. Some of the best mixed species fishing ive ever had from the shore. All along the coast. Notable areas would be St Davids, Stackpole & Barafundle bay, fishguard. Personally i find the fishing from the West cost of Scotland very hard! Fish are small and far and few between. Thanks PE very helpful son seems to like the ideas in your message - he still wants to try Scotland so we may start in Scotland and come down quickly - could end up in Cornwall ! JDFrain
if you do head up the west coast of scotland Portpatrick is a good venue with plenty good marks in that area. ideal for pollock from the shore. they also do charter boats from there. MM
Alright Kes. Im fishing along the north side of the llyn on the 18th-20th of may. the reason im not going the week after is the tides are not that good. Im staying on a site there, and if you fancy calling in, me and the lads will fish with you and then back for a BBQ
Ant8681
Come to Cornwall, there are plenty of good marks down here and from what I hear most places are fishing well!
scimitar
Don't rule out paying a visit to the northeast coast, theres some great boat fishing from whitby and hartlepool plenty of ling and cod also the odd halibut. The beaches of northumberland offer bass, flounder, plaice, dab and even turbot for some lucky anglers. Well worth a look for visiting anglers. Jonty
Kes, I'm not sure if this link will work, but this is a fantastic rock mark on the Lleyn peninsula. It's a bit of a scramble but well worth it. If the mackerel are about, you'll certainly catch from here too. Just zoom out to get an idea where it is. Clicky You can walk there in about 5-10 minutes from this camp site, it's basic but very nice Campsite
